Carmen Cordova Carricaburu

Zumba & Zumba Toning Instructor

Carmen Cordova Carricaburu is one of our Zumba Fitness and Core Strength Instructor.

She is certified by AFFA to teach Yoga/Pilates Core Strengthening and certified in Zumba Toning.

Born in Cuba, but raised in the Florida Keys where she has spent most of her life.

Carmen worked in Real Estate for 32+ years but retired when she discovered her passion for Zumba. In 2013 she decided to relocate to Murphy and pursue her passion for Zumba at the Hiwassee Valley Pool & Wellness Center(now MHF), which she says is one of the best experiences of her life.

In her spare time, she and her husband spend every day enjoying life and are passionate about living an active lifestyle. She enjoys sharing her passion with others and developing lifelong friendships with all of her students.

Dana Bolyard

Zumba Instructor

A long time resident of Cherokee County, Dana took Zumba and other group fitness classes for years before becoming an instructor herself.

Her class play list includes songs that appeal to all styles and tastes.

In her free time, she enjoys gardening and quilting.

Debbie Thigpen

Tabata Instructor

Certified Personal Trainer Debbie Thigpen has been training for 3 years. Debbie enjoys working with people who are having trouble reaching their personal fitness goals. Most of Debbie’s previous experience has been training people who want to compete in powerlifting. However, Debbie has experience working with injury recovery, cardiovascular endurance, and weight loss.

Debbie has an AAS from Tri-County Community College, BSW Western Carolina University, and MSW Tulane University, and is licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Clinical Social Worker. She is certified in Core and Functional Fitness. Debbie is currently working on certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine for Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Coach, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Performance Enhancement Specialist.

In her spare time, Debbie enjoys playing English Hand bells with several of the local churches. In addition, she competes in Powerlifting and currently holds six World Records with the Southern Powerlifting Federation.

Brandon Beach

Group Exercise Instructor

From Albany, Georgia. Youngest of six children.

Wrestled NCAA Division 1 at Gardner-Webb University.

Has a Bachelors degree in Public Relations with a Minor degree in Sociology. Has a Masters Degree in International Business. Continued education with the MBA-Plus (teaching certificate) in Economics.

Former professional MMA fighter.

26 years of experience in the martial arts. 4th degree black belt and Master instructor in Tang Soo Do and Hapkido. Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jit-Su.

Certified Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor and Silver Sneakers instructor.

Bonnie Patterson

Brenda Rosser

I was born in Cincinnati, OH but moved to Hayesville in 1983.

I attended Appalachian State University.

I received my Certified Personal Training certification in 2012, and my Sports Nutrition Specialist Certification in 2017.

I have been a fitness instructor for 7 years.

I have two kids, Katelyn, 23, and Austin, 21.

I enjoy anything outdoors.. hiking, running, and lake time with friends.

Barbara Haydon

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Core Fitness & Endurance

Moderate to high intensity circuit training appropriate for all fitness levels. This class combines anaerobic and multi-joint exercises that will increase stamina, strength and endurance. Modifications for exercises available.

Core on the Ball

Includes a gentle warm up followed by conditioning, core, balance work and stretching. Many exercises incorporate use of a Swiss Ball. Improves muscle strength and joint flexibility.

Total Body Tabata

A high intensity interval training class that utilizes a wide variety of total body exercises to keep you motivated, rev up your metabolism and give you great results. Easy to follow with modifications for every BODY!

Zumba

Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a fun cardio program.

Pilates

Lengthen and sculpt your muscles!

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyas style Yoga. All levels are welcome.

Senior Fit

Focuses on flexibility, muscular endurance and core strength for the more experienced adult!

Senior Balance & Fit

Helps seniors regain and improve balance and strength. Most exercises are done seated.

Silver Sneakers Boom Mind

Combination of Yoga and Pilates for the more experienced adult.

Boot Camp

A combination of high intensity cardio & strength training, with a different format each week to challenge your body.

Circuit Training

A series of exercises which combine strength and cardio, performed in a rotation format with rest periods in between.
